AESIS 2019 Fund Manager Workshop on Crowdinvestment Vehicles
Thanks to sponsorship from the African Development Bank, Lelapa facilitated a workshop on Crowdinvestment Vehicles for aspiring fund managers at the 2019 edition of the African Early Stage Investor Summit hosted by ABAN and VC4Africa.
Crowdinvestment vehicles are useful structures for first-time fund managers who seek to build their track record by making small deals at low cost, within a simplified fund structure. Under the ACfA Label Framework regulations, these crowdinvestment vehicles can be “listed” on equity crowdfunding platforms in order to raise capital from individual investors. This has many advantages compared to the traditional fundraising process with LPs which can last several years and ultimately not result in a close.
This new addition to the AESIS programme was coordinated and delivered by JE Austin and Valhalla Capital Management in partnership with AfriLabs. The broader, full-day training workshop consisted of a series of interactive sessions that cover the essential aspects of fund management across the various funding stages and mechanisms, such as early seed investing, venture capital, equity, debt, impact investing, and crowdfunding / crowdlending.
